WIP weekender: Marienwerder 2019
After our first big WIP trip, we received some feedback from those who couldn’t come along. They shared: 1. “I’d like something shorter because I don’t have a lot of vacation time left.” and 2. “I’d like to attend something close by that doesn’t require plane travel.” Wishes granted.
We let all of the good vibes from our first WIP experience sink in, then we were back at Hallesche Haus on Saturdays planning the next one. The goal was to find somewhere accessible by public transport, but far enough away that it felt like an escape from the city – an escape from normal life. Another goal was to open it up to more humans – maybe as many as 20 humans. To make this possible, we also knew that we needed to add a few more people into our dynamic duo – a chef and another trainer, in particular.
Coming highly recommended was Chef Helen (see @helenrussellbrown for all the drool-worthy eats) and then we got a big “YES!” from one of the sweetest trainers on earth, Lina (catch @linoschkah at ride.bln, Adidas Runbase, and other places). With our team prepped and ready, we were able to put on an unforgettable weekend in the woods. Allowing people to escape the grey and come play.
The weekend looked a little like this…
Friday: Arrive any time after 6 to our cozy, candlelit home in the woods to snack on an appetizer spread, bJuice beverages, wine if you wanted. The goal was to get a good night’s rest, ready for a morning workout.
Saturday: We started the day with a mobility workout and run/walk. Then Lina arrived for a strength session. After that, breakfast was served and there was some downtime for showers, naps, reading, chats – whatever. Before lunch, we talked about immunity and how to boost it during the winter months (see my Instagram post below for some tips). After that, we rallied for another cardio workout with Lina followed by a candlelit restorative yoga session. After an amazing dinner, we got to know each other a bit – bonding over the crazy day we just had.
Sunday: We started the day with a cardio kickboxing class and stretch followed by another incredible breakfast. 👏🏻Helen is amazing. After that, we had some downtime before gathering to learn a tiny bit about meal prep. We used leftovers + some extra sources of healthy fats and protein to prep lunches for later or to enjoy the next day. We concluded the program with a walk in the woods. It was grounding and soothing – the perfect last activity before heading back to the city.
The food was gooooood (see gallery below). The menu was mostly plant-based with some cheese and eggs added in to make sure everyone felt comfortable and well-fed. Helen also added some extra special touches with homemade muffins, chocolatey bread, and brownies – yes, brownies!
